SMITH MISSES BIG FINISH IN NEW COMMERCIAL: It's the economy stupid!
Florida Gubenatorial candidate Rod Smith's latest commercial takes an approach that is certainly more creative than his primary Democratic opponent-- yet he falls short of making a fully convincing argument.
In the new spot by DC firm Strother-Duffy-Strother, Smith appeals to the majority of Floridians (and Americans for that matter) that supported funding for stem cell research. In it he promises to open up Florida's market, much like California did, for stem-cell research in order to "unlock cures, save lives and restore hope."
While it is a clearly strategic move, how could he not mention his proposal's effect on Florida's economy. Wouldn't opening up funds for stem cell research create thousands of jobs and bring the world's best medical talent to the state? Perhaps they were limited by time or didn't want to bog down the message, but I think most would agree it was a missed opportunity for a one-two punch .
